Guide to hosting summer parties

Amanda Schwartz, Lunds and Byerly’s Catering event planner, shares her tips on hosting a successful summer party:

With June 21 behind us, the season of weddings, graduation parties, family BBQs and weekends at the cabin is officially here; it’s summer!

When it comes to summer fun, we all throw a party every now and then. As Minnesotans, we’re almost required to enjoy the warmth. Hosting can be a daunting thought though when all you want to do is kick back and take in some precious Minnesotan sun.

That’s why our catering team has come up with some solutions to make things fun and easy for both hosts and guests alike!

Our Favorite Dishes

  • A new favorite on our menu is our Sparkling Pear Punch. It’s made with pear puree, lemonade, honey and soda water, garnished with a sprig of rosemary and crushed ginger. Both refreshing and satisfying, it’s a perfect go-to for both casual and fancy occasions alike. Serve this punch from a beverage dispenser as is, or add alcohol and make it into a fun signature cocktail.
  • If your family potlucks are like mine, you’re likely to end up with six potato dishes, a handful of desserts and no main courses. Worry no more – our Backyard BBQ package has you covered! Portioned to serve about 25 guests, our package comes with hamburgers, hot dogs or brats, as well as buns, potato salad, coleslaw, potato chips, condiments and even mini cupcakes for dessert! By adding a sandwich topper tray, your guests will have access to toppings like tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles and banana peppers to personalize their meal.
  • Tap into the nostalgic summer days of ice cream trucks by hosting your very own Ice Cream Social. We supply not just the ice cream and caramel sauce, but your choice of toppings like crushed Oreos, toffee bits, sliced strawberries, diced pineapple, toasted pecans and mini marshmallows. Bowls, spoons and all serving utensils included -and we haven’t forgotten the whipped cream!
