A Message from CEO Tres Lund: We Stand with You
For more than 80 years, Lunds & Byerlys has served this community – the entire community with all of our unique and beautiful differences.
Our community and the entire world are hurting right now in the wake of George Floyd’s death and the long history of racial injustice that has to end now.
As I was talking to staff and customers at the reopening of our Uptown store on Wednesday, I had a conversation with a customer about the events that have unfolded during the past week. During that conversation he asked me what we at Lunds & Byerlys are going to do about it.
I have to admit I don’t have answers, but I do have a lot of questions as I assure you we want to be part of the solution. Like all of you, I find myself experiencing many emotions, including shock, sadness, fear, regret and guilt. And while I haven’t deeply processed those emotions yet, I need to and I will.
During this past week, much of my focus and that of many in our Lunds & Byerlys family has been centered around emergency management. We’ve needed to quickly make decisions in an effort to protect our staff, most importantly, and, if possible, protect our property so we could continue providing food and essential products to the communities we serve.
As I find myself processing what’s happened to George Floyd, I do know this can’t continue to happen. I am glad we are being asked the question, “What are you going to do?” I might not have the answers today, but it’s certainly not too early to ask.
As the life of George Floyd is memorialized today, Lunds & Byerlys stands with those seeking justice and change. And I truly believe that through our grief we will, together, find the strength and courage to do just that.
