New store at Central and University avenues to feature gourmet buffet,
expansive produce department, and organic and natural bulk foods section

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Lund Food Holdings, Inc. will celebrate the grand opening of a new Lunds in northeast Minneapolis on November 2 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

This is the first of two new Lunds scheduled to open in the downtown Minneapolis area.  Future plans include the opening of a Lunds on the corner of 12th Street and Hennepin Avenue in the Loring Park neighborhood.

The 26,000-square-foot supermarket is located on the ground level of the new, multi-story Cobalt Condominiums on the corner of Central and University avenues – the former site of Rick’s Market, which was purchased by Lund Food Holdings in 2004.

Among the new store’s many features will be self-service American and international gourmet buffets.  The buffet offerings will change every two weeks with themes ranging from Italian, East Indian and Hispanic to Cajun, barbecued and comfort foods.  Customers will pay the same per pound rate for all buffet items.

Additional store features will include a full-service meat and seafood department, an organic and natural bulk foods section, an expansive produce department with more than 100 organic items and a bakery department offering European-style pastries and artisan breads.

An extensive prepared foods area will feature fresh sushi prepared on-site, a full-service deli, grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, a salad bar, self-service deli salad bar, dessert bar and a soup station offering hot, chilled and frozen Lunds & Byerlys soups.

A café area will offer seating for 30 adjacent to expansive windows.  Sidewalk seating along University Avenue will be available in the spring, summer and fall.

Free parking for customers will be available in a safe and adjacent two-level parking ramp that includes nearly 130 parking spaces.  A cart escalator in the store will allow for groceries to be easily transported to the upper level of the parking ramp.

Additional services at this location will include White Way Cleaners, Caribou Coffee and Minneapolis Floral.  A PrairieStone Pharmacy is scheduled to open at the store approximately one month after the grand opening.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony on November 2, customers will be served muffins and coffee by CEO Tres Lund and other company officials.  A reusable cloth grocery bag will be given to the first 2,500 customers who enter the supermarket.  Inside the store, customers will be treated to a wide variety of free food samples.

The grand-opening celebration will continue through November 15 with additional complimentary samples, food demonstrations, giveaways and special appearances.

The store will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.  It is located at 25 University Ave. SE.  The store’s phone number is 612-548-3820.

Including the new Lunds in northeast Minneapolis, Edina-based Lund Food Holdings Inc., operates 10 Lunds and 11 Byerly’s supermarkets in the Twin Cities and surrounding area.
