Holiday spirits: How to make mulled cider
A warming drink is always a cozy comfort on a cold day. Mix up a batch of this mulled cider so it’s ready and warming in the slow cooker and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy your own party, too.
- Peel of ½ orange
- 6 inches cinnamon sticks, broken
- 1 inch ginger root, peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 8 cups apple cider
- 1 cup apple brandy
- ¼ cup honey
Tie orange peel, cinnamon, ginger root, and allspice in an 8-inch square of cheesecloth. Combine apple cider, apple brandy and honey in a slow cooker. Add spice bag. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 5 to 6 hours or on high heat setting for 2 ½ to 3 hours. Remove and discard spice bag. Ladle cider into cups.
