A groundbreaking and neighborhood social took place on September 1 to ceremoniously mark the beginning of construction of a new Lunds grocery store and wine market at the corner of 12th Street and Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.

Despite a hot and humid day, hundreds of people were there to take part in the festivities, including Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and City Councilmember Lisa Goodman (pictured below).

This full-service Lunds is expected to open in the summer of 2012. It will occupy approximately 20,000 square feet and will feature an impressive selection of prepared foods, including sushi, a full-service deli and grab-and-go salads and sandwiches. Additional amenities will include a Bachman’s and Caribou Coffee.

An approximately 5,600-square-foot Lunds Wine Market will also open in the summer of 2012 in an adjacent building at 1208 Harmon Ave.
