The absolute hottest trend in the bakery world this year is the Cronut™. This tasty treat is a cross between a croissant and a donut and we officially have them in our bakeries!

After many taste tests and revisions (I know, I have such a tough job some days) we’ve got our very own take on the Cronut…

Introducing the Lunds and Byerly’s Doussant!
Pronounced dough-SAHNT, it looks almost like a raised glazed donut, but when you take a bite you’ll see the layers and layers of croissant dough as it oozes with Bavarian cream. It’s a rich concoction of pure deliciousness!

The inspiration for our Doussant, the Cronut™ (yes, it’s actually trademarked), was created by Dominique Ansel in his New York City bakery, Dominique Ansel Bakery. This spring, it immediately became a bakery legend with stories about lines wrapping around the block with hungry New Yorkers waiting hours and hours for a taste.

Ansel, not wanting to live on Cronut sales alone, decides to limit the quantities they fry each morning to about 200 so his bakery doesn’t become overrun with Cronut crazies. I hear you still have to get in line about 5 a.m. for the 8 a.m. opening! Oh, and when you stand in line for 3+ hours for that $5 Cronut, you can only purchase two of them. I’m told there are a few of the same people in line each morning, buying their 2 Cronuts and selling them at a hefty mark-up to people in the back of the line. Isn’t America great?

So as the bakery world was buzzing this summer about this trendy new product, we had customers asking if we carried them or if the treats could be recreated in our kitchens. We immediately went to work and now have tasty Dossants for you!

We’ll make as many as we need to satisfy our customers. No lines and no “limit 2” requirements. And our retail price certainly beats the east coast: $1.79 each for our Doussants. If you’re looking to purchase a box of these for the office (they’ll love you for it), you might want to give your bakery a heads-up so they can be sure to have enough ready for you.

Life is too short to stand in long lines for bakery treats. Give our Doussants a try – you can’t go wrong with this one!
