Classic Mint Julep Cocktail
This cool cocktail,
known for its southern roots, is a favorite at the Kentucky Derby and is traditionally
served in a silver cup.
- 3 fresh mint leaves
- .5 ounces Mint
Simple Syrup (see recipe below)
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 1 fresh mint sprig
Place mint leaves and
Mint Simple Syrup in a chilled glass. Gently press leaves against glass with
back of spoon to release flavors. Pack glass tightly with crushed ice; pour
bourbon over ice. Garnish with mint sprig.
Mint Simple Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 10 to 12 fresh mint
Bring sugar and water
to a boil in a medium saucepan. Boil, stirring often, 5 minutes or until sugar
dissolves. Remove from heat; add mint, and let cool completely. Pour into a
glass jar; cover and chill 24 hours. Remove and discard mint.
