LUNDS SELECTS NEW SITE FOR FUTURE
GROCERY STORE IN DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Lund Food Holdings, Inc. announced today its intent to build a full-service Lunds supermarket at 11th Street and Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.
The company has signed a long-term lease agreement with Alatus LLC, which owns the property along the north side of Hennepin Avenue, between 10th and 11th streets. The approximately 30,000-square-foot supermarket will be located on the main level of a mixed-use project being developed by Alatus. Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2009.
“Lunds is an integral part of every community they are in, and we are thrilled to have them as a part of our mixed-use development,” said Bob Lux, principal at Alatus.
Lund Food Holdings original plans called for opening a multi-level store on a site the company owns at 12th Street and Hennepin Avenue, which is one block west of the new location.
The change in location for a downtown Lunds comes on the heels of the company witnessing the tremendous success of its newest Lunds that opened in 2006 just across the Mississippi River in northeast Minneapolis at University and Central avenues. That urban-style, single-level supermarket features a heavy emphasis on perishables and premium prepared foods.
